I often read Stoicism related quotes about how we have control over our own thoughts and feelings, but as of right now, I don’t agree with this.

My thoughts around this are outside the scope of this post, but these ideas are outlined well in Annaka Harris’ book about consciousness.

I try to use this as a way of going a little easier on myself. If I act in a way that I wished I hadn’t, or say something cutting in a heated moment. Then I try to remember that my thoughts arise without my doing anything.

Then it’s harder to feel like I did anything “wrong”, because, in a way… I didn’t.
