Gravel and Rocks

Published: 15/06/21

When I think of tasks that need doing, I tend to split them into Gravel and Rocks.

Rocks are big and important, they tend to take up a fair amount of time, and they move your life forward in some meaningful way.

Gravel is everything else. It’s all of the day-to-day life admin, text message kinda shit. It still needs doing, but it doesn’t tend to add much value. Gravel also tends to feel more urgent.

If you think of the time you have in a day as a bucket, then you want to get some rocks in there, because you can then pour some gravel in around the rocks.

But, if you fill it with gravel (which is oh-so-easy to do), then you won’t have any space for those important rocks.
