Passing Anxiety

A common bit of social-anxiety related advice is to give yourself time to become used to a new situation.

The other day I was with some friends and felt uncomfortable for a reason I couldn’t place. Rather than fixating on what specifically was making me feel uncomfortable, I tried to just involve myself in the afternoon. After half an hour or so, I was fine. I was having a lovely time without experiencing any discomfort.

I didn’t work out what was making me feel uncomfortable, that didn’t really matter. Simply by giving myself a bit of time to adjust to the situation, I felt great.
